Willamette River | Boating for four

Jeff’s dad gave him a small fishing boat that he’d held onto until a few years after we first started dating, back in 2002. When we bought our very first place, a condo in NW Portland in 2004, he decided to sell it, because well, we had so many big ideas about what to do with the money from that said boat. Since, we’ve always talk about how we wished we’d kept it, and one day we’d get another just like it. This summer we did. We wanted to spend the last of our summer days wading in the middle of a river or lake. We’d enjoy some sun and giggles with the girls and feast on a beautiful picnic lunch. Comically its quite basically the complete opposite. The journey started at the dock, Marlowe prepped the ride by closing her eyes and nuzzling her face in my neck right after the engine started, and didn’t move an inch the entire ride. She had her eyes locked on eyes, waiting for confirmation that indeed, we were completely nuts for trying to drown our family.  She’s been like this since birth; never close enough to her momma and not as fearless as her sister. Needless to say there was no beautiful picnic, wading or giggles during cruising, but there was sun, love and a dream of many more beautiful days spent outside growing as a family.

Timothy Lake, Oregon | Camping with 2 year olds

We finally took our first official camping trip of the summer in late August. So. Just a touch behind the rest of Oregon, but we’re still considering it a success. Mainly because of the spot we found, which was tucked in the middle of the forest, down the road, around the bend, and far away from any other camper.  The kids were in heaven,  probably the happiest I’ve ever seen them. It was almost as if they weren’t smiling, they weren’t eating dirt. And waking up next to mom and dad in a small fabric house was like, blowing their minds.

When the internet is full of ugly, the only reasonable thing to do is blow it up with photo’s of adorable things that makes this world mush!  In this case, m+m at the flea last weekend owning the place.

We’re just under 2 months shy of celebrating Macie Lou and Marlowe’s 2nd birthday. What I would give to hold and hug those two chunky baby bodies at once without breaking my back. They are just so long, and lady like, and smart with all their single word pairings and moments of mega-big-girl-ruling.

Soon, one day in a blink of an eye I’ll be craving to hold and hear the raspy voices they have now while singing their ABC’s from the backseat of the car. Because today will soon be a distance sweet memory.

I’m just so damn proud of these girls right here.

Events & Moments

Freedom calls | 4th of July

We moved into our home exactly 2 years ago this month. I remember thinking about the times we’d have in the future, with our own children running amok amidst loud giggles in and out of the house, with watermelon dribbles, stubbed toes and friends, lots of friends. It was a distant thought, like something we wouldn’t see for years, and by years I mean decades because well, growing from a 5 pound itty bitty baby to a talking, self eating toddler really should not happen in just 20 months. Luckily I’m among a hefty group of new parents that can fully understand the exact moment I’m in, we’re all in really, because life is short, but it’s even shorter when you live through the eyes of your littlest adventurer. And poof, just like that they’re 35 years old saying the same thing with their own children.

It’s not uncommon for someone to ask me what it’s like to raise twins when I’m out with them. My answer is always a guilty conscious from having to split precious time between two growing babies. With that, I take my hat off to moms of multiples at different ages, doing completely different things at different times and spreading time between each so gracefully. Some days I have Marlowe on my hip all day. But it’s been like this from day one. I can remember getting incredibly upset at the baby owning the upper right quadrant of my belly who was kicking me to death whenever i’d sit down to relax at night, quite literally to the point I’d have to push my hand down on her and yell for her to go back to sleep. I knew from those later months of my pregnancy that this little Marlowe of ours would be a little more needy, authoritative and sensitive. And the bottom left quadrant baby, our little Macie Lou, she’d be our quiet, independent, care taking sweetheart. It’s almost as if they were paired to be raised side by side, Macie always knowing sissy would need more attention. And Marlowe stepping aside when Macie needs me to focus on her. It’s a beautiful relationship, one I’m so honored to be a part of.

So anyways, that felt good to chat proud mom talk. Now back to friends, lots of friends, and watermelon dribbles and stubbed toes, and kicking off the Fourth of July weekend by opening our home to our closest friends (at least the ones left in town) for beer, bbq and babies. A little photo evidence below…

Apartment Therapy | Wright Home Tour

It’s surreal seeing your family and home on a site you visit often for inspiration. Jeff and I put a lot of love into our home to make it a special place to raise our little girls in so seeing it captured on Apartment Therapy, documenting this special time in our lives makes my heart so happy and thankful.  Thanks for sharing our story Heather Keeling.

Color Coded

Color of the Year | ROSE QUARTZ & SERENITY

Not one, but two colors Pantone has given us to outfit our bodies, faces and furnishings in for 2016. At first glance, Rose Quartz and Serenity remind me of a baby shower, old family photo’s or my parents textured wallpaper in the 80’s. But then I started looking at how this could translate into modern home decor. Rose Quartz in a flat paint splashed on the walls in a bedroom would look amazing, and even more lovely when paired with black. And Serenity, here me out on this one, worn in a shirt as a texture, then a darker Serenity hue in a jacket and matching pant. It’s like a dressier take on head-to-toe denim. Am I right?

ABOUT THE BLOG

Wright for Michele is a Portland based lifestyle blog devoted to cultivating stylish, relatable and creative content. It also serves as a personal time capsule of my family’s journeys, giggling and stumbling a bit, through it all.

I started "Wright for Michele" back in 2010 as a creative outlet and to share the things I love (basically the exact same reason the rest of the internet started blogging). Often this blog is about family, sometimes it’s about style, and in general it’s about life and how you (and me) can make every single area in it, better. It’s simple, it’s real (sometimes a little raw and almost always full of grammatical errors), it’s honest and hopefully no matter what it’s a little sweet.
